Challenge the rock

Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
To hug the mountain
To envelop…that mountain
To hug the mountain
To envelop…that mountain
To hug the mountain
…that mountain
…that mountain

He wants to make love to the mountain.

Tough young guys singing with bodies in their…..eh….
Finger and teeny toes
Challenge the rock…..Challenging…death!
Why do I climb the mountain?… Because I’m in love!
There is a passionate affair going on with Kirk and that mountain
Kirk is on…Kirk is on the mountain.
Now in order to create that illusion…sucking…some of the most
Sensational men to not only climb are veracious, fleeting and illusive and peripheral.
And that’s putting me on the mountain
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain, why is he climbing a mountain?
HOLD IT PLEASE….

To hug the mountain
To envelop…that mountain

To hug the mountain
To envelop…that mountain
To hug the mountain
…that mountain
…that mountain
He wants to make love to the mountain.
And the climb is going where no man has gone before
Where no man has gone before!
Challenge the rock…..Challenging…death!
Why do I climb the mountain?… Because I’m in love!

Separated-united.

day 0 x 5

from the change bin in the drawer of my computer desk.

Let me leave you with the 10th aphorism from Theodor Adorno’s Minima Moralia:

Separated-united. – Marriage, whose despicable parody lives on in a time when the basis of the human right of marriage has been withdrawn, serves today mostly as a trick of self-preservation: each of the two conspirators deflects the responsibility for any villainy which they might commit onto the other, while in truth they exist together opaquely and swampily. The only proper marriage would be one, in which both have an independent life for themselves, without the fusion which rests on an economically compulsory community of interest, but which instead would involve taking mutual responsibility for each other out of freedom. Marriage as a community of interest inexorably signifies the degradation of the interested parties, and what is perfidious about the existing state of affairs, is that no-one, even if one knew of this, can avoid such degradation. Sometimes one might entertain the thought that it is only those who are emancipated from the pursuit of interests, that is to say the rich, who retain the possibility of a marriage without shame. But this possibility is entirely formal, because those who are privileged are precisely the ones to whom the pursuit of interests has become second nature – otherwise they would not maintain their privileges.

Yes, so it seems like everyone is doing one of these. But, I like the idea of being able to look back at any day of the past year and have a visual cue to that day.

Dear University Alumni Office,

I’m sorry to hear that the university’s $750 million endowment has fallen in value to $500 million because of the recession and because your bank died. I’m also sorry to hear that you’re dealing with declining enrollment due to the fact that middle-class families are no longer willing or able to bet their homes on a $45,000-a-year higher education for their children. I really am.

So, what I want to know is, why are you wasting money on glossy fundraising brochures full of meaningless synonyms for the word “Excellence”? And, why are you sending them to ME? Yes, I know that I got a master’s degree at your fine institution, but that master’s degree hasn’t done jack shit for me since I got it! I have been unemployed for the past TWO YEARS and I am now a professional resume-submitter, sending out dozens of resumes a month to employers, and the degree I received in your hallowed halls is at the TOP OF IT and it doesn’t do a fucking thing.

EXHIBIT / EVENT

Where: MCAD
Price: free [ Opening reception 6-8 p.m. Fri., May 28 ]

Design studio Aesthetic Apparatus is arguably the Twin Cities’ most lauded poster designer. The MCAD Gallery’s latest exhibit takes a look at its impressive first decade—one year after the fact. The retrospective gathers the prodigious output of sole employees Dan Ibarra and Michael Byzewski, who founded AA 11 years ago as an after-hours project away from their “real” design jobs.

When:
Daily from Thu., May 27 until Sun., June 27
The opening reception is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 28.

“AAXI” highlights every limited-edition poster Aesthetic Apparatus has turned out since it formed, including show posters for the likes of Grizzly Bear and the Hold Steady, and art prints from the well-known Doom Drip series. It even expands beyond 2D works to include half-jokingly venerated studio artifacts: wire and clips from AA’s first workspace, rubber stamp designs, an infamously ugly studio couch, and the sheet of legal paper where Ibarra and Byzewski first wrote their business plan (“Low art. High prices!”).
